Brush your teeth! Or else you will know what it feels like to have gum disease. If you think back, I'm sure you can recall being told that by your mother. But you shouldn't be humiliated if you have gum disease. It seems that it is fairly common. So lots of us ignored our mothers! Florence dentist Fotolia_6094158_XS.jpg

At any rate, you need to take heed about gum disease and not delay treatment if you see it. You get this disease when mouth bacteria destroys and upsets the foundation of your teeth. One of the first signs of gum disease is sore and bloody gums. And underneath it all, the infection is injuring your jawbone. If you don't get treatment, you can end up with infections in other body parts.

One of the things that triggers gingivitis (mild gum disease) is bad oral hygiene in addition to your age, genetic predisposition, stress level, and other factors. It can be reversed with proper treatment by a professional dentist as long as you follow up with proper oral care at your house. If left untreated, gingivitis can advance into periodontitis.

That means you absolutely need to take care of the gingivitis. The dentist at Florence that will take care of your gum disease uses a special cleaning procedure called periodontal therapy or scaling or root planing. In the process of the scaling, the dental professional will scrub your tooth roots clean and take off all the accumulated plaque and do away with any bacteria that is still lurking around the root.

When the dentist has finished this cleaning, you won't have to do anything else to get rid of the gum disease. But for the sake of your gums, you will have to build some new habits.

It will be all up to you. Plan to floss and brush your teeth and also rinse your gums with a solution of peroxide and salty warm water through a cannula. The pik itself should also be used to get between the teeth. A maintenance program including this is not only necessary, it's totally essential.
